Bonjour!
There will be a math quiz on area and perimeter next Monday, April 24th. The students received a practice quiz today with some of the concepts that will be covered, including knowing when area and perimeter are measured in real-life situations, how to measure the area of irregular shapes and using the formula (length x width) to calculate the area of rectangles. Grade 6 students will be expected to know how to calculate the area of a parallelogram (base x height) and a triangle (base x height divided by two). Grade 6's will also be asked to solve a problem involving calculating the surface area of a rectangular or triangular prism, as well.
With spring comes "La Course Incroyable" to our classroom! "La Course Incroyable" is based on the television show "The Amazing Race". Students, in partners, 'travel' to different areas of the world, where they are expected to solve problems and complete related challenges. Volunteers are needed in order to provide the challenges or "barrages routiers" of the race. It is a fun way to participate in your child's learning, no French is required and costumes are provided! If you are able to help, please e-mail me or leave in a note in your child's agenda. The dates for the first three legs of the race are: Friday, April 21 - 8:45 - 9:45
Thursday, April 27 - 8:45 - 9:45
and Friday, May 5 - 8:45 - 9:45
Please let me know if you are able to help. Merci! Mme Lindsay
