Some upcoming projects and quizzes

Bonjour!  I hope that you enjoyed our incredible fall in Muskoka.

  Below is a list of upcoming quizzes and projects.  Please let me know via your child's agenda or via e-mail (a.lindsay@tldsb.on.ca) if you have any questions.  Mme Lindsay

Gr. 5's and 6's:    Quiz on place value (large numbers up to 100,000 and decimal numbers to the thousandths (0.006) this Thursday, October 27th.  Students will receive a review outline on Tuesday.

Those students studying the Human Body/le corps humain in les sciences:  Quiz this Friday, October 28th.  Students will be given a blank outline of the human body and will be asked to draw eight different organs (their choice) within the outline and to explain the function of each organ.  Marks will be given for placing the organ in the right location, for its approximate size and shape and for explaining its function (2 marks).  Students will be given extra outlines for practice.  We have covered the circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems.

Those Gr. 6 students studying la biodiversite:
  Below is the English translation for this presentation, which the students will do in French.  Note that the presentation will be oral, only, (except for written labels), along with the diagram, model or costume representing the newly discovered species.  Presentations will start next Tuesday, November 4th for four days.

"  Imagine that you are a biologist and you have just discovered a new species of vertebrate.  You will be presenting your new species in a visual way to our class.  Here are some ideas:
- a labelled diagram
-a costume (highlighting the special adapted features of your species)
-a 3D model with labels

  Explain:
a.  To which class of vertebrate does your species belong (i.e. mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles or fish or is it a combination of several classes)?  How do you know that your species belongs to this class (ex.  I know that it is an amphibian because it is covered with  a layer of smooth, wet skin.)

b.  Why is your new species important to the biodiversity of the region in which it was found?

c.  Other interesting information about your species'
