Graphing Project
Due: Monday, September 26, 2016
After spending the past couple of weeks creating different types of graphs, discussing which types of graphs suit which types of data and talking about how data displayed in graphs is used in the real world, students are now ready for their own graphing project. Note that although this project is due next Monday, students will have a chance to put the finishing touches on their graphs and their responses that day during math class. Students may respond to the questions by using a word processing program on their computer. Graph paper is available in class. Let me know if you have any questions. Mme LIndsay
- Choose the subject of your graph. You may use data that is already available (ex. amount of precipitation in Huntsville during the month of August) or you may do a survey to create your data. Check in with Mme Lindsay before you continue.
2. Based on the type of data you are collecting, choose which type of graph or chart you think would best show the information (i.e. stem-and-leaf plot, bar graph (horizontal or vertical), double bar graph, broken-line graph, continuous line graph or other.)
Why do you think that this type of graph or chart is the best way to display your data?

3. Create your graph or chart, based on the data.
Check in with Mme Lindsay once you have finished this step.
4. Answer the following questions, based on your graph.
- What information can you glean from the graph you created? Is the information shown what you would have predicted? Why or why not?

b) How could the information from your graph be used in the real world? (i.e. Who might be interested in this information and why?)
