Reading and Social Studies update

Hello!

I hope you all enjoyed this beautiful day.  I wanted to send a quick update about what is happening in our class in the pm.

In Social Studies, we have been learning about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.  We have had some wonderful discussions about how fortunate we are to be Canadian.  We will be having a short quiz on Tuesday.  Students have all the information they need in their Social Studies cahier.  However, I wanted to post this overview (below) as well.

Soon, we will begin assessing contributions to Canadian identity made by various groups and regions (Grade 6) and analyzing the consequences of interactions among and between First Nations and European explorer prior to 1713 (Grade 5).

In Reading, we just finished our class novel and are about to start a new one called La Nouvelle Maitresse.  We have been working on the reading strategy making connections and identifying how our connections help us understand what we read.  We just started a media unit, in which we are analyzing French commercials and identifying the persuasive techniques used.  Soon, we will begin looking at identifying the main ideas of a text.
