EQAO testing for Grade 6's for the next two weeks

EQAO testing for the Grade 6 students in our classroom will begin next week on Wednesday and will continue on May 25, 26, 30, 31 and June 1st.  Please ensure that your child attends school during this time if possible.  During the first block of each of the EQAO school days (8:45 - 10:25 a.m.), the Grade 6's will work through booklets that alternate between reading and writing tasks in English and math questions.  Unlike the Gr. 3 EQAO testing, when the French Immersion students wrote only the math portion of the test (and in French), this time all portions of the test will be written and in English.
During this time, the Grade 5 students will be split into three groups and will be working in a different Gr. 5 FI classroom.  They will rejoin us after the first nutrition break.
The school will provide extra snacks for our Gr. 6 test takers.  Please make sure that your child comes to school with a book to read (not a problem for this group!  They're avid readers!) and/or a notebook in which they can draw.
If your child receives accommodations (i.e. use of a laptop to record written answers) as per their IEP, those accommodations will be provided during EQAO testing and they may have the opportunity to write the test in an alternate work space.
As testing happens over our phys. ed. time, I'll be sure to take them outside for some exercise and fresh air after the first break every day.
The EQAO test is one record of how your child is performing in the areas of reading, writing and math.  As well as giving you a snapshot of your child's learning so far, the information instructs our teaching of certain math and language concepts in the future.
Let me know if you have any questions and best of luck to all of our Grade 6's!

Mme Lindsay
